MIPAS can see polar mesospheric clouds

Distribution of water ice particle volume density at altitudes of (a) 83 km and (b) 85 km, retrieved from MIPAS limb emission spectra. The solid black line is the 150 K temperature contour.

MIPAS measurements confirm the water ice nature of polar mesospheric clouds. Being a limb emission sounder, MIPAS can measure polar mesospheric clouds both during day and night.
