Natural ozone variability over Bern explained

Solar radio flux at 10.7 cm wavelength (green line) and related ozone fluctuations (colour coding) over Bern as a function of time and pressure. The IMK trend analysis tool has been used to attribute ozone fluctuations measured with the GROMOS microwave radiometer to various drivers.

The IMK trend analysis tool is a multi-linear regression tool which supports consideration of the full data covariance matrix. The underlying trend model includes offset, linear trend, amplitude and phase of the annual cycle and its overtones, as well as user-defined proxies. The ozone fluctuations over Bern are explained in terms of the annual and semi-annual oscillation, the quasi-biennial oscillation, the El Niño Southern oscillation and the solar cycle.
