Welcome to the SPARC WAVAS II Workshop on Satellite Data Quality Assessment

The meeting will be hosted by the Jet Propulsion Laboratory

Water vapor is the most potent greenhouse gas; its evolution in the stratosphere, however, is still not well understood. Numerous satellite data records are available to date; however, there seems to be a wide spread among the data records regarding the absolute numbers of water vapor mixing ratios and their temporal and spatial variation.

The "Satellite Data Quality Assessment" activity within WAVAS II has the goal to provide a review on the available water vapor data records and an inter-comparison among the more recent measurements and reprocessed improved data records from previous instruments. At the meeting, we plan to present and discuss the comparisons to ground-truth data records and satellite data inter-comparisons done so far, and to discuss with you the contents of the planned review publication.

We welcome your contributions to the workshop and invite you to make a presentation about your ground-based or satellite data records and any comparison/validation activities performed so far. Please provide the planned title(s) of your contribution(s) on the "Registration" site.

The workshop will be held December 4-6 (Wednesday to Friday before the AGU Fall Meeting) in Pasadena, California, at the Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL). Directions how to travel to JPL can be found under the link "Travel" above. "Accommodations" gives you some hotel addresses and related links. Please book your accomodation yourself.

Please register online for the workshop (click "Register" above, deadline is 30 September 2013). There will be no registration fee, since JPL will generously sponsor the meeting by supplying the meeting room and refreshments during the meeting. However, we need to know who will attend for a timely JPL entrance registration. At the "Registration" site you can also provide the title of your contribution.

The SPARC office has generously offered a limited amount of travel support for this meeting; you can apply for travel support at the "Registration" site. If you have any questions, email us
