DFG

Full title: 'Consideration of lifetimes of tracers for the determination of stratospheric age spectra and the Brewer-Dobson Circulation (COLIBRI)'

The mean age of air is a powerful tool to diagnose the Brewer-Dobson Circulation. By consideration of multiple source gases the mean age of air can be better constrained. Stratospheric sinks on non-inert source gases, however, have to be considered.

Helmholtz Association

The Helmholtz Climate Initiative REKLIM (Regionale Klimaänderungen/Regional climate change) is a consortium of eight research centres within the Helmholtz Association.

The international working group SOLARIS (in 2012 renamed to SOLARIS-HEPPA) was created to clarify the effects of solar influence on climate with special focus on the importance of middle atmosphere chemical and dynamical processes and their coupling to the Earth's surface with state-of-the art chemistry-climate models (CCMs) as well as mechanistic models and observations.

The main objective of SI2N is to assess and extend the current knowledge and understanding of measurements of the vertical distribution of ozone, with the aim of providing input to the next WMO Scientific Assessment of Ozone Depletion anticipated for 2014. IMK contributes with the thorough assessment of drifts and trends in the MIPAS ozone data record, and a comprehensive intercomparison of ozone records from satellites of the last decade.

This project aims at assessing the available stratospheric data sets of chemical trace gases and at a detailed inter-comparison of compiled atmospheric composition climatologies.
